Something about surfing tempts a person to live a simpler life. It might be that the intense levels of joy we get from it makes the clutter seem far, far less important. Next thing you know, slowing things down just comes easy. But the “why” doesn’t really matter as much as the fact that it just happens and we can all relate on some level.
If anybody’s doing that right, it’s Gavin Beschen. He’s a Southern California guy who’s set roots on the North Shore and roaming around in the garden behind his home is the perfect reminder that life on the islands is pretty damn appealing.
