If I were to say the name “Jon Krakauer,” what probably comes to mind is a phenomenal writer, a teller of stories, or the book that you were forced to read in high school. I somehow made it through my educational career without having Krakauer appear on my reading list, but since then I’ve devoured his gripping tales of survival, disaster, belief, and human experience. However what I didn’t know until today is that Krakauer is also a Colorado native and accomplished backcountry snowboarder having been engaged in the activity for most of his life. Similar to the incredible books that he has written, Krakauer has some knowledge to share in the realm of backcountry as well. In episode 5 of the Jones Avy Savvy series, Jeremy Jones sits down with Jon Krakauer to talk about backcountry safety and this year’s interesting and dangerous La Nina snowpack.
