Sage Kotsenburg knows his way around a freestyle snowboard course. In case you don’t remember, he won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, the first ever Olympic gold in men’s snowboard slopestyle, actually. He currently competes on the Natural Selection Tour, and at the tour’s most recent stop in Baldface Lodge in Canada, Sage laid down some pretty nice runs to secure his spot at the tour’s final stop of the season in Tordrillo, Alaska. Best of all, he’s since gone back to look at the footage and recorded this sweet video of himself breaking down one of his Baldface runs for viewers.
The run wasn’t Sage’s best, but it certainly was an interesting one. At the start of his run he hits a pillow that sluffs off and follows him down the mountain, forcing him to adjust his line to avoid the tumbling ice chunks. The run wasn’t a high-scorer, but looking back on it provides ample opportunity for analysis of the quick thinking required to lay down a line on a freestyle snowboard course at the Natural Selection Tour.
