The Inertia

Tim Georgeson is an Australian photographer, filmmaker, and artist. He is supremely good at what he does, and his latest work, Mystique Sequence is hard proof. It’s not a surf film — it’s far more important than that.

Mystique Sequence is an emotionally driven environmental film that explores the connection between the ocean and the landscape of Montauk, the most mystical and easterly point of Long Island,” the description reads. “Through weather and textures, voice, sound design, spectacular scenes from high above and way below, and an eye that wanders deeply into both the elements of land and water, the tapestry of these landscapes are highlighted, fused and resolved. This powerful film evokes, and also questions, our world.”

The voice-over is by Alan Watts, the British philosopher who, if you let him, will consistently blow your mind. He speaks about giant, amazing ideas, wrapping one around another in a beautiful thread that tugs at the strings of your brain. You may be familiar with the sound of his voice, since it’s been used in a handful of surfing films, but nowhere has it been more perfectly paired with visuals than in Mystique Sequence.
