The Inertia

Zane Schweitzer is a bit of a magician. He can turn any sort of bump on any kind of water into something to play on, whether riding a longboard, shortboard, SUP or sail. Talent runs deep in the Schweitzer family.

To wit, he makes this piece of water on the Columbia near Hood River, Oregon into his private jungle gym. That’s a foil board. And those waves are created by wind. He’s near the “Fish Hatchery” on the Washington side of the river (you can tell because Zane is actually traveling upriver, against the current as the wind moves west to east). Hood River is a hallowed place for lovers of strong gusts and Zane is in the Hood for this weekend’s race, the Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge. By the looks of it, he isn’t worried about getting anywhere fast, though. Seems to be more concerned with fun. The way it should be, right?
