The Inertia

If Chris Bertish never took another step, another paddle stroke or even surfed another wave, he still would have accomplished more than 98.5 percent of the humans living on the planet. Paddling 4,000 miles across the Atlantic puts you in that category. But then there’s the win at Mavericks in 2010 and all the other big wave exploits for the South African.

But you can be sure that the 42-year-old isn’t finished. He’s working on his second book (Stoked, his first, has been out since 2015). And you can bet he’s got another big project in the works. After he finished his Atlantic expedition, Bertish joined us at The Inertia headquarters to talk about staying alive in the middle of the open ocean, sharks and other memories from one of the greatest expeditions in recent history.
