The Inertia

When most of us think of surf trips, we think of waves with long open faces. We think of tucking into barrels that we actually plan to exit. We think of making turns that fill our salty little hearts. We don’t think of surf trips strictly devoted to getting thumped in the shorebreak.

Jamie O’Brien does though. He psychs on those types of surf trips. He psychs so hard on them he needs a dedicated psych counter just to tally all the times he says he’s “psyched.”

We’re psyched for that. We’re psyched because watching another person willingly put themselves square in the middle of some of the gnarliest shore break on the planet is actually pretty entertaining. Shorebreak so gnarly that J.O.B. himself admits he’s scared.

“All these waves are gnarly, I ain’t gonna lie,” he says. “Straight real deal. Probably gnarlier than Keiki’s. Maybe it doesn’t get as big but pound for pound I think Cabo might take out Keiki’s.”

So there’s a thought for you: a guy who’s made a living out of surviving any stunt one could think of (or making his sidekick do it) is scared of this place.

Welcome to Cabo.
