This last week at Pipe was pretty good, to say the least. This short clip was shot over two days, January 20th and 23. John John Florence, Kelly Slater, Mason Ho, Reef McIntosh, Gavin Beschen, Jeremy Flores, and a few others are always standout there… but there are a few things in this video that stand out.
Things of note:
1. Mason Ho is the king of the butt drag. At the 2:43 mark, from the time he pops up to the time he gets barreled, Ho is dragging ass (and what ass-dragging style!) in the way only Mason can do.
2. John John Florence is king of Pipeline, with JOB a close second. Kelly Slater’s in there somewhere, too. Actually, let’s make it a three way tie for first. But how’s John John’s final barrel at 3:18?
3. When it comes to screwing around in incredibly heavy situations, Jamie O’Brien is the king of the court jesters. The ski-stance at the 2:28 minute mark is proof.
4. Somehow, the guy at the 1:43 mark sneaks into a proper Backdoor wave after taking a feather -dusting on the head. That is the definition of a close call.
