The Inertia

A smaller day at Jaws is still pretty adrenaline-packed. Yet when this swell popped up on the charts on January 13th, only a few local chargers took their chances, making it less of the typical chaotic mess that a crowded international lineup can make. No helicopter, no drones, just the Maui crew on their smaller 9” + boards taking turns.

Stand-outs of the day included 26-yr-old Paige Alms, who has proven herself to be one to watch in the big wave arena, especially at her home break of Pe’ahi. Local goofyfoot Jack Webb was all over the lefts, and Tyler Larronde dominated the morning session.

Then there were the bodysurfers. If you enjoy watching extreme bodywhomping, this takes the cake. A handful of torpedo people sat on the inside bowl all day, chasing down the nugget rights, and often making it down the face to a clean exit.

Massive storms are on the horizon with many elite big wave surfers eyeing down the swell, with a possible Big Wave Tour stop in our near future.
