“Hi, I’m Bede… I mean Mike.”
“Is it weird that I swiped right?” That was Kelly Slater’s response when he saw the image of Bede Durbidge on a popular dating app called Tinder.
Of course, it wasn’t actually Durbidge, who is a devoted family man. It was indeed a photo of him, but it wasn’t his Tinder profile. “Mike” is an “easy going surfer from the sunny coast”, and he is “keen to meet you.” As one would expect, when Bede’s wife Tarryn posted a screenshot of her husband’s face on a Tinder account on her Instagram (“I was shown this today – so excited to see my hubby on Tinder,” she wrote), Bede’s friends did exactly what they were supposed to do: laughed at him.
“Hahah you must be a busy man,” said Mick Fanning. “This is the best thing ever,” Joel Parkinson followed up with.
So if you’re looking to hook up with a person who is “keen to chill, chat, hangout, get together, enjoy each other,” and you don’t care that he might not be the best looking person or be the most standup of characters, give Mike a call. Sorry ladies, Bede’s taken.
