Making your own shit is fun. I’m in the process of building a little house up in the hills, and I have no idea how to do it. Apart from a bit of furniture here and there, I don’t have have all that much experience with carpentry. I really bit off more than I can chew… but it is such a delicious bite. It’s amazing what you can figure out with a book from 1974, Youtube, and a a bit of patience. Here’s a picture of it, because I am proud of my progress:

In the process, I built a very big surfboard rack from 4x4s and cement and tin. It’s overkill, but I love it. I spent way more than $8 on it.
Sometimes simple is best, though–take, for example, Cyrus Sutton’s clip on how to build a surfboard rack. Granted, if you can’t figure out how to do this yourself, you probably have bigger problems, but if you’ve been storing your boards in a dank basement, dinging them every time you walk by, maybe give this a shot. You can afford it!
