River surfing is weird. Not weird in a bad way, though. Weird and fun, I would imagine. Not too sure whether too many could base their lives around it in the same way millions do for regular surfing, but it would certainly be better than NOT surfing.
Conway Bixby has the wave at Bend Whitewater Park pretty much dialed. The park is on Oregon’s Deschutes River, and routinely has a whole lot of surfing/river enthusiasts testing the waters when the ocean isn’t giving up the goods.
