Rivals are supposed to hate each other. They’re supposed to want to rip each other’s teeth out and sleep with the other’s boyfriend. Not jam out together in a cozy-looking hut in the South Pacific. But Carissa Moore and Stephanie Gilmore, nine titles between them, are a long ways from Andy and Kelly. No, there’s a much more harmonious edge to their relationship, obviously (dohh, had to, way too easy), especially since they’ve both been eliminated in Fiji.
The World Surf League has its detractors. But of late, the entity has certainly used its athlete’s extremely likeable personalities to leverage the brand. And nothing appeals to more people than two attractive champions sitting in a room together jamming out on Colbie Caillat and Norah Jones while Facebook Live broadcasts it to the world. Better than a finals heat between the two? Definitely not. But could you imagine Lebron James and Steph Curry playing music together? Or Federer and Nadal?
So just enjoy for a minute, without priority or a ticking clock or judges to mess up the exchange.
