Jamie O’Brien has spent more time in stand-up barrels than your average surfer. His backyard is Pipeline, after all, and as one of the best to ever do it, he’s got an extraordinary amount of comfort inside a very large green room. But you don’t get to be one of the best surfers at one of the best waves without taking your fair share of beatings, and those beatings eventually took a toll. Surgery was required to fix a bum knee, but now, after a few months of body surfing, Jamie’s back in it.
O’Brien’s been spending quite a bit of time in California, and his stay has coincided with a few decent runs of swell. The day in the video above afforded him the opportunity to get his first real stand up barrel in two months, and he couldn’t be happier to get back on the horse. Afterward, he headed down the coast to Malibu, where, as usual, fun was had.
