The Mentawai Island chain is chock full of insanely good waves. Nic von Rupp knows this, and he’s spent a lot of time surfing them. But of all the good waves, one stands out for Nic: Kandui.
Nic von Rupp, as you likely know, is a very big fan of getting barreled. And as a goofy-footer, Kandui is a good place for Nic von Rupp to get those barrels, especially on a swell like the one that’s featured in the edit above.
“Crazy last few days up here in the Ments,” he wrote in an email. “Blessed to have Kandui Resort as friends. They always give me a shout-out when the charts align, and they did. Kandui is such a beast, probably the heaviest wave in Indonesia at six to eight feet. Fast, shallow, and hollow. Perfect combo!”
