The Inertia

If you follow surfing, even just a little bit, by now you’re aware of the madness that was Teahupo’o on Friday the 13th. Garrett McNamara said it was, “one of the biggest swells to hit that bit of reef since Code Red in 2011.” This most recent swell was one for the books, to be sure, but as is the case with most swells, it wasn’t just a one day thing. Friday the 13th was the biggest day, but the days before and after were, by all accounts, really, really good.

Nathan Florence was there. He’s got a special place in his heart for the “End of the Road.” It’s where he’s caught some of the best waves in a life full of good waves. And after the tow day on the 13th, he pulled out the gun, said no to the personal watercraft, and paddled into a few absolute monsters.
