The Inertia

It’s fair to say that we’re all just a little bit jealous of Ítalo Ferreira. With freakish talent, inexhaustible energy, and a deep passion for the sport of surfing, he’s gone from riding a polystyrene cooler lid in his hometown of Baía Formosa to WSL Rookie of the Year in 2015, winning the World Title in 2019, and the first gold medal in men’s Olympic surfing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“Some people may think ‘Ítalo came from nothing,'” says close childhood friend and film narrator Buxexa. “But he had everything here, everything he needed to become who he is.”

Now, with the WSL Finals looming on the horizon, he’s almost perfectly poised to take home his second world title – if he can take down fellow countryman Gabriel Medina, that is.

The Curious Tales of Ítalo Ferreira goes back to Ítalo’s humble beginnings in Baía Formosa, documenting his meteoric rise to the pinnacle of worldwide surfing fame with old footage, interviews with family, friends, and pros such as Shane Dorian, Mick Fanning, and Jadson André; and of course, some mind-bending clips of Ítalo surfing at home and around the world. Masterfully brought to life through the lens of RedBull TV, if you’re looking for some awesome surfing and incredible storytelling to get you stoked for the WSL Finals (the waiting period starts tomorrow, September 9), look no further.
