The Inertia

Ben Gravy is in a strange place for a surfer. South Korea isn’t on the top of most traveling surfers minds, but it’s a vibrant place with waves and interesting little pockets of surfing communities — both ocean-centric and of the man-made variety. Hell, he even did something risky and headed to (technically) North Korea to see what Kim’s waves were like.

It appears that Ben is pretty well-known in South Korea, which might be a strange feeling. In this particular vlog, he surfs a wave that breaks off a warship in South Korea.

“This ship is a memorial to young soldiers who died fighting in the Korean War here in South Korea,” Ben explained. “Korea has a very distinct and recent history with many political aspects, and it’s amazing to see this country embracing something like surfing. Surfing is a beautiful therapy that can change the way a person thinks or even lives. It’s an honor for me to be here in South Korea sharing my passion for it with people who use the ocean the same way I do, it’s truly beautiful to see.”
