The Inertia

I live on a lake. Well, across the road from a lake, but close enough. In the summers, it’s full of boats, generally with people sliding around behind them, and many of those people are wakesurfing. I gave it a shot for the first time a few years back on a friend’s wakesurf board, and all I could think of was just how much I’d rather be riding a normal surfboard. A groveler, sure, but a normal surfboard.

The fins on the wakesurf board felt too small. The board itself was too thin and too wide. And I’ve noticed something over the last few years: more and more people are riding surfboards behind a boat. Longboards, though, are not something I’ve seen in my particular corner of the lake. But Tommy Witt, Mike Murphy, and Jimmy Thompson decided that they’d give it a go, and although I certainly can’t hang ten like they can, I’m pulling out the log next time I have the chance to get behind a boat.
