Jamie O’Brien is an interesting guy. He makes his living surfing, as you well know, and he’s carved out a wildly successful life not by surfing in contests, but simply by living life to the fullest and showing it all. Pipeline, of course, is his bread and butter, the wave that made him the surfer he is today. He’s one of the few at the top of the pecking order at what could be considered to be the most famous wave in the world. He’s put the time in, taken his lickings, and proved he’s got what it takes to ride the best waves very, very well.
Pipeline turned on near the end of December, and Jamie was there. “Jamie O’Brien decided to show everyone today that not only does he still dominate Pipeline, but that he’s actually looking better than ever,” wrote Off Da Lip on YouTube. “With the added paddle power of his trusty pink soft-top, he was able to sit farther out and take off deeper than any of the other pros in the lineup. Then he would scream down the face and somehow wipe off all the speed, allowing himself to collect the maximum amount of tube time that each wave offered. Seriously an impressive thing to witness.”
