Koa Smith has had a busy year. Though the Kauai native was originally best known for his prowess in the barrel (namely one ridiculous 2014 video at Skeleton Bay that cemented his place in surfing lore), he’s been diversifying his portfolio of late.
He recently released a full-length movie, entitled The Source, where he goes to South Africa to rekindle his relationship with surfing. Concurrently, he’s also been working on a new surfboard brand with Matt Parker of Album Surf. The collaboration, called Resonance Surfboards, has already produced at least one model – a wild-looking experimental number, based on the shape of a steak knife.
However, all that hasn’t left Koa without enough time to get out in the water. A recent video from YouTube staple Off Da Lip shows Smith in Padang Padang in Bali, doing what he does best – getting absolutely shacked.
However, the edit isn’t without its share of drama. On the very first wave, Koa can be seen mercilessly burning another surfer, before locking into one of the aforementioned spectacular tubes. Good thing he wasn’t on the steak knife board.
