There are a lot of surf videos floating around out there that are attractive to the average surfer because the waves are enormous. Waves that the average surfer wouldn’t be able to surf. Huge slabs at Ours, enormous barrels at Puerto, or tow-in behemoths at Nazaré always grab the viewer’s attention, but perfect waves that the average surfer could actually surf often get skipped over in favor of something with a little more shock factor. But sometimes, a video shows up that’s just too perfect to ignore, and this one, featuring Balangan on May 6, is one of them.
Balangan is a fun wave in Bali. It can get big enough to be challenging to an average surfer — most waves can, really — but when it’s on, it looks like a wave you’d doodle in your notebook when you were a kid daydreaming in math class.
“South swell came with a storm to Bali,” Surf Raw Files wrote. “The morning was raining and made the waves pretty bumpy, but as soon as the southeast wind kicked in the afternoon, it glassed off and turned on!”
