It’s safe to say that Mason Ho is one of the most well-rounded surfers in the world. He surfs huge waves well enough for Eddie invites. He’s one of the best ever at Pipeline. He surfs little waves, weird waves, and everything in between. And at the relatively recent Swatch Nines event, he proved that he’s got a ton of weird tricks up his sleeve at any given moment.
Swatch Nines is one of surfing’s strangest contests. It’s not even a contest, really. It’s more like one big expression session for the world’s most creative athletes.
“This year, they added some more equipment for us to play with which was crazy!” Mason Ho wrote. “Like a longer rail slide and a rail with a kink in it! REEF also threw up a wall to ride with Mick Fanning’s new shoe on it. There was a couple GIANT airs made on the air section by all the boys and girls as well.”
The video you see here isn’t all the rides from the event, obviously. It’s mostly made up of Mason Ho’s antics, but his antics were straight up ridiculous. Wall rides, boards slides, and more strangeness all made it into this edit, and it’s one hell of an entertaining watch.
