Lisa Andersen, surf icon and world champion, is now a part of the Outerknown roster.
Andersen, of course, is a legend in the surfing world. She broke down the walls that were holding back many female athletes. With four world titles and a sterling reputation as a person, Andersen has been dedicated to surfing and the ocean for almost her entire life. Her official title at Outernknown is Brand Ambassador.
“Welcoming Lisa Andersen into the Outerknown family feels like a full-circle moment,” said co-founder John Moore in a press release. “She’s a legend in surfing, but more than that, she’s a woman who’s embraced every chapter of her life with resilience and authenticity. Seeing her light up in our clothes reminded me exactly why we started this brand — to design with purpose, to celebrate lives well lived, and to tell stories that truly matter.”
Kelly Slater partnered with Moore in 2015 to open the doors to Outerknown, and as a fellow Floridian, he’s known Andersen for years. He’s watched as she surfed her way into the history books. “Lisa defined a new era for women’s surfing and changed what men thought of how women surfed,” he said.
Although she came to be known as “the Roxy Girl” and had a huge role in Roxy’s brand over their 30-year relationship, soon after Authentic Brands Group (ABG) acquired the brand in 2023, that relationship ended.
Now, she’s moved onto Outerknown, and she couldn’t be happier. “I just love how I feel when I’m wearing Outerknown,” said Andersen. “It feels so natural – and it makes me happy. It’s exactly how a surfer should feel, stepping out of the water and into something warm. These pieces feel like a true reflection of who I am. I feel like a woman in Outerknown. And I love what the brand stands for – caring for the ocean and the earth, and making clothes more responsibly. That’s exactly what I want, too.”
