When Kanoa Igarashi missed out on the WSL Final 5 in Fiji, he didn’t stay home and pout. He hopped on a plane to catch a pulsing swell lighting up the famously long left points of Peru.

While barrels were uncharacteristically sparse at Cloudbreak for the finals, there were plenty to go around in the Peruvian desert. Long, overhead walls provided playful tube sections for everyone in the lineup.

Brazilian surf vlogger Ricardo Nakare was there with a video team to catch the action. He paddled out into a superstar session that included Igarashi, Olympians Lucca Mesinas and Alonso Correa, and local charger Sebastian Correa, among others.

“It was fun,” Igarashi told Nakare after the session. “I got one or two (barrels).”

Since Peru, Igarashi’s social media posts show him jetting around the world to Japan. He’s making the most of his long offseason so far.
