The board Tony Hawk rode when he landed his historic 900 in the 1999 X Games has sold for more than $1 million at an auction. According to Julien’s Auctions, the historic Falcon 2 skateboard fetched $1.15 million last Wednesday — several hundred thousand dollars more than what was originally expected when Hawk’s 900 collection auction was announced.
Proceeds from the auction, which began online in late August and culminated in a live event in Hollywood last week, went to Hawk’s nonprofit, The Skatepark Project, which builds skateparks in underserved areas. Two other boards from his collection raised more than $50,000 each and several items brought in five-figure and six-figure price tags. But nothing came close to “the board that changed everything,” as the collection calls it.
Julien’s Auctions says the $1.15 million sale set a world record, which is fitting considering Hawk made history with the Falcon 2 model.
“I hope that it’s someone that truly appreciates it or that that event or that object meant something to them and it’s not just a flex because they have the money. I guess that’s what I’m worried about,” Hawk said before the auction. “… I would be stoked if it’s someone that had a connection to skating or that maybe they’re going to display it somewhere for other people to see.”
According to Sportico, the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia ever sold is the jersey Babe Ruth wore when he called his shot in the 1932 World Series. That was sold in 2024 for $24.1 million.
