The Inertia

Kelly Slater is the most famous surfer in the world. He got there with grit, competitive savvy, an obscene amount of talent, and a thorough understanding of his equipment. He’s made a mountain off the back of his success, firing up multiple brands like Endorfins. Just yesterday, Slater and Firewire released a new surfboard, and now Kelly Slater and Endorfins are announcing a new fin set.

“Introducing the Endorfins KSR,” the brand wrote. “Kelly Slater’s newest fin set, a raked template designed to maximize hold and generate drive and is the complimentary opposite to the KS1 pivot template.”

The rake of a fin, as you likely know, refers to how much farther back the tip of the fin is from the base. The more raked a fin is, the more drive it tends to have. It also allows for wider, more drawn-out turns, and Slater, in his infinite surfing wisdom, prefers to ride these size large in bigger waves, and medium in smaller waves.

“This fin pairs really well with a board that I designed with Mike Woo,” Slater said, referring to the newly-released Spaceship model. “We designed that board to be a board that’s good for barrels and carving; more on the face.”
