Australia's best surfers riding G-Land

The Inertia

If you want to be a professional surfer, you’ve got to put in your time in real waves. More so these days than ever before, the competition is fierce. Everyone pushes everyone else just a little harder. Everyone takes off just a little deeper. So when three of Australia’s top upcoming girls headed to one of the heaviest left-handers on the planet, it was a real sight to see.

“Australia’s top emerging female surfers took on one of the world’s most powerful reef breaks in this all-girls strike mission to G-Land, Indonesia, led by former world champion and Surfing Australia high performance coach, Chelsea Hedges,” wrote mySURF TV.

Charli Hatley, Ziggy Mackenzie, and Isi Campbell are all incredibly good surfers, but even when the best surfers arrive to pumping G-Land, limits are going to be pushed. It’s a challenging wave with punishments as harsh as the rewards are good, but for the girls on the trip, it was necessary.

“It’s not about getting the clip of their life,” said Hedges, who was there on the trip with the girls. “It’s about trying to get good at this stuff. It doesn’t happen straight away, but the more they do it the more comfortable they get and the more excited they are for it.”
