In order to become one of the best surfers in the world, one must surf a lot. Like, a LOT. In the process of doing that lots of surfing, people like Jordy Smith have countless amazing sessions under their belts. But Jordy Smith called the session you see here the “best surf of my life.”
Smith is built for powerful waves. He’s bigger than most pro surfers, but much like an NFL linebacker, that size hides his athleticism a bit. He’s lithe and quick, powerful but agile. When a powerful surfer meets a powerful wave, good things happen.
I can’t be sure whether Jordy Smith was referring to the actual waves or the session in general when he said “best surf of my life,” but either one would be believable. Not only are the waves about as perfect as they can get, Smith is surfing them on another level. Ever seen a guy more in tune with a wave than Jordy is on the first one in this video? I don’t think I have.
