Mason Ho surfing Pipeline

The Inertia

Mason Ho is a different kind of surfer. Supremely talented, yes, but also supremely comfortable in waves most people would not be comfortable in. Rocks? Just a fun little obstacle. Cliff walls? Something to drag a hand across. But of all the waves in all the world, there is one, perhaps, that he’s most comfortable at: Pipeline.

For one to become high on the pecking order at Pipe, you’ve got to put in a lot time. It certainly helps that Mason Ho comes from surfing royalty and grew up on the North Shore, but Mason put in the work. It was a labor of love, but labor nonetheless. And now he’s reaping those rewards.

While the waves on the evening this clip was filmed weren’t all-time, Mason made the best of it. He found barrels where others might not. He dodged the crowd perfectly. He was in the right spot at the right time. And he appears to know what each wave will do before it does it. Mastery at work, right?
