It might be hard to keep up with all the new wave pools opening up around the world, but the latest (I think) is called ADRENA, and it’s located in Saudi Arabia. Foiling — at least the way its being done by surfers — is a pretty new thing, too, so someone had the bright idea to stick a foiler in a wave pool and see what happens. What happened was basically an infinite wave.
The foiler in question is Matthieu Etxebarne, a guy from Spain’s Basque Country. He’s one of the best foilers in the world, and in the video he shared on social media, that’s exceedingly clear.
“Endless ride in the pool!” he wrote on Instagram. “Super fun trying new things and creating new waves together. This technology from Endless Surf has no limits!”
ADRENA is an interesting wave pool. Using Endless Surf technology, it’s not chlorinated like most others. Instead of using a bunch of water filtration systems, water return channels, and all that other stuff, it uses salt water from the Red Sea.
“The ADRENA lagoon utilizes a closed-loop circulation system that draws seawater in, filters and circulates it through the lagoon, and then returns it to the Red Sea,” The Inertia wrote. “There’s no machinery underwater in Endless Surf pools, which they say allows them to return the water clean.”
Etxebarne, for his part, couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Whatever your take on foils and wave pools, it’s hard to deny that this looks really, really fun.
“I think I could do this for hours,” Etxebarne finished.
