The waves in Hossegor, France get really good. It’s a famous surfing destination for a reason, and that reason became abundantly clear on March 3.
“One of the best surf sessions we’ve seen in the last decade,” wrote the YouTube channel Rip It Up. “Perfect sandbars, clean swell and heavy tubes firing on the famous Landes beachbreak.”
Like many heavy beachbreaks, waves like La Graviere and La Nord are not for the faint of heart. They’re for surfers with steel shoulders. Surfers willing to get driven into the sand by a thick lip. Surfers who want to get very, very barreled.
The waves were a welcome respite from a pretty dismal winter in France. “After weeks of storms and a pretty slow winter, everything finally lined up along the Landes coast: a perfectly angled swell, clean winds and sandbars ready to fire,” Rip It Up continued. “The result? One of the best sessions we’ve seen in the last decade. At low tide, La Nord was already firing and offering great waves for the outside sets. Then with the pushing tide, La Gravière started going crazy, delivering the kind of heavy barrels the spot is famous for.”
