The Inertia

Jamie O’Brien is a relatively new dad. He and his wife Tina have been doing all the things new parents do — feeding, changing, and not sleeping — but now that he’s a little bit older, they decided it was time to get him into traveling. The first place on the list: Australia.

It’s said that the best time to travel with a child is between 3–9 months old. It’s often considered the sweet spot for traveling parents because they can’t run away from you just yet, they sleep a lot, and they have a bit of a routine established. Kolohe O’Brien was born on September 10, 2025, so he’s smack dab in the middle of that sweet spot.

After a quick stop over in New Zealand, they made their way to the land of some of the most crowded waves on the planet. It’s likely to be a whole lot different for Jamie this time around… having a child changes a few things in your life, to say the least, and he’s probably pretty used to surf trips that don’t involve a baby. But it seems fairly apparent that Jamie and Tina could not be happier, and despite the wildly crowded surf Jamie found, I’d wager this is one of his favorite surf trips yet.

“Kolohe is all smiles,” Jamie said. “He’s our number one psycher and he’s keeping us psyched every day.”
