Have you ever entered a daydream and been transported to your happy place? Maybe a perfect right-hander grinding down a reef, or floating over a fresh layer of light powder? Well, if so, you probably aren’t the only one.
In filmmaker Víðir Björnsson’s latest work, titled “Dreamy Lines,” he takes viewers into the mesmerizing dreams of Rúnar Pétur, an Icelandic surfer, snowboarder, and fisherman. As Pétur nods off while working on a boat, he gets transported to Japan to pristine powder, backcountry runs, and tweaked-out airs. Then, he wakes up from the dream only to encounter a kelpy sea monster, a symbol from the heavens to go search for waves in the chilly Arctic waters.
“The film explores the pull of daydreams, escaping the routine of everyday work to chase waves and snow in some of the world’s most remote landscapes,” Björnsson wrote. “Dreamy Lines blends surf and snowboard culture into a visual meditation on freedom, movement, and the spaces in between responsibility and desire.”
