The Inertia

A Navy base employee is in critical condition after a shark encounter. What’s more, the harrowing encounter was captured on video by a bystander.

The attack occurred Monday morning around 11:45 a.m. at the Naval Support Activity in Panama City, Florida. According to NSA commanding officer Tristan Oliveria, an unnamed employee in his late 20s was swimming near the marina with a colleague during his lunch break when he was attacked.

The man received injuries to both arms and was subsequently taken by the NSA Panama City Fire and Emergency Services team to HCA Gulf Coast Hospital. There, he he was rushed into surgery. The coworker was unharmed.

“First and foremost, our prayers and thoughts go out to the family, and we want to send our appreciation to the first responders who rendered initial aid and made sure that the victim was properly and expeditiously taken to HCA Gulf Coast Hospital,” Oliveria told NBC affiliate WJHG.
