According to reports, Ross Clarke-Jones wound up in the hospital after a wipeout in near Port Campbell in the Australian state of Victoria at just before 9 a.m. on June 8.

“Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics assessed and treated one patient at the scene,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson told reporters. “A man in his 60s with an upper body injury was transported by road ambulance to Warrnambool Base Hospital in a stable condition.”

It’s likely he was surfing at Easter Reef, which is a big wave spot just out of the Port Campbell harbor. It’s a hairy wave, suited perfectly for Clarke-Jones’s penchant for sending it, but it’s not a great spot for the average surfer.

“Two Mile Bay, also known as Easter Reef, is not for the faint hearted,” Surfline describes. “…The waves here take a brutal toll on boards, bodies and egos, and you’ll need a ton of confidence and ability if you want to match it with the locals when Two Mile does its thing.”

Clarke-Jones reportedly suffered from facial injuries, including a broken nose. The Standard reported that he released himself from the hospital soon after being admitted, choosing not to undergo a recommended MRI. This is far from the first time Clarke-Jones has suffered an injury while on the hunt for the biggest waves he can find, and it probably won’t be the last. Heal up quick, Ross.
