The Inertia

We don’t see enough of Torrey Meister these days. A few years ago, I was in Portugal with a handful of surfers, Torrey (and his awesome dad) included. He mostly did his own thing, but his own thing in the water is pretty incredible to watch. He’s one of the most casual people I’ve seen in person when it comes to surfing big barrels, and when it comes to looking for big barrels, G-Land is a good place to be. Especially recently.

Torrey and his crew knew what to expect, so they headed to Padang Padang the day before the forecasted swell was to arrive. It was flat. Very flat. But thanks to the wonders of modern surf forecasting, they weren’t too worried. And when that swell did show its teeth, it was everything the crew hoped for.

But only surfing does not a surf trip make. After a solid morning session, they decided to put a few hooks in the water to break things up. And by the time they had dinner aboard, it was time for an evening session to get extra hungry for that dinner.
