Mad Hueys surfing Cape Solander

The Inertia

The Mad Hueys are a uniquely Australian group. It’s a brand, too, but it’s a brand built on a bunch of beer-drinking legends who love to surf crazy waves, catch big fish, and generally have a good time. And for a group of guys that love that kind of thing, the wave at Cape Solander is just about perfect.

“The boys had three days of trading barrels with the other local lads there,” they wrote. “Beatings were had, beers were drunk! All in all a susscessful strike mission. Thanks to all the local boys looking after us down there.”

It wasn’t as big as it can get, but it was plenty big. When it’s even slightly big at Cape Solander, it’s one of the world’s heaviest waves. Breaking in front of a cliff face and over a shallow slab of rock, it’s a wave that requires a whole lot of skill, a whole lot of a dedication, and a little bit of craziness. All of which the Mad Hueys have in spades.
