Craig Anderson is one of surfing’s most talented people. Not just talented, but interesting. Surfing is full of interesting characters — despite the best efforts to turn it into a real sport, it is still defined by an undercurrent of anarchy. Surfers like Anderson march to the beat of their own drum. Being a pro surfer doesn’t mean you compete in front of judges for arbitrary numbers… it simply means you make a living from riding waves.
But in order to make a living riding waves outside of a contest, you’ve got to have something special. Craig Anderson has it, whatever it is. In a world where surfers’ styles are often an exact copy of someone else’s, he’s got his own distinct way of surfing. Knock-kneed and casual in the face of whatever the wave throws at him, Anderson moves through the water in a similar manner as he moves through life.
In Aftersun, a new film from Nobody Surf and Haydenshapes, Anderson paired up with videographer Tyge Landa for a road trip featuring great waves, great surfing, and two Haydenshapes models, the Darkside and DarkNoiz.
