If you ride a longboard at all, you’ve likely attempted to hang 10. It’s a phrase that’s become ubiquitous in surf lingo, often said by non-surfers while throwing a stiff-fingered shaka. In longboarding, it’s kind of the top of the mountain when it comes to maneuvers, and that’s because it feels… well, it feels great. Bella Eberz knows that well, so T&C Surf Designs, the iconic Hawaiian brand, enlisted her for a quick tutorial.
“The hang 10 is the ultimate longboard maneuver,” she says. “Every longboarder strives to get a hang 10 every time they surf.”
While that may not be entirely true, there are a few reasons to do it that go beyond just looking good.
“It allows me to be in an even more critical section of the wave than a hang five,” Eberz continues. “And also, it just feels indescribable. It feels like time kind of stops and you’re flying at the same time.”
It’s not the easiest thing to do, by any means, but like anything, it comes with practice. And what better way to practice than by surfing?
