The Inertia

The sport of surfing is unique in that it depends completely upon nature’s moods. Swells depend on distant storm systems often located in different oceans or hemispheres. Wave quality depends on bathymetry, the orientation of the coastline, and a host of complicated variables. That’s all void, however, unless the ocean is clean and biologically productive.

Whether it’s a conscious decision or not, surfers have an acute awareness of our ocean’s health. The more time we spend in the ocean, the more we become fascinated by its complexity, and, sadly, the more we realize how quickly we are destroying it. The waves and the life beneath them are in jeopardy.

Luckily, surfers, artists, and environmentalists will unite for a summer-long benefit called The Art of the Surf exhibition. The event celebrates the surf and raises public awareness to protect and preserve our coastal environmental. All proceeds will benefit the Surfrider Foundation.

Furthermore, The Art of Surf will be juried by surf artist Damian Fulton, and is accepting entries until April 9. 2011. So surf artists, shoot us an email or check out PSZaskGallery.com for more information.
