Is this the future of skiing in California? While melodramatic for sure, the most frightening part of this “foreshadowing” of sorts is that there are probably very few of us who are willing to completely rule it out.
Jane Keller at Happy United offers both the inspiration behind as well as an explanation of the video: “A short film by Klaus Obermeyer at Aero Films in association with Happy United and Groove Guild as part of the Earth Day campaign #ClimateChangeIsReal produced by Purpose + Here Now. Fearless rock skiers brave the treacherous jutting rocks of drought ridden California mountains illustrating the effects of climate change on our once snow capped peaks. California’s water supply is nearly 30% snow runoff. No snow, no water.”
Again, though outwardly melodramatic, a historically bad winter (in terms of snowfall) — one of the worst, actually — exhibits the types of signs that mean these kinds of hellish conditions are not that far off. Whatever you believe the causes for it are, climate change is definitely worth understanding.
Rock drop, anyone?

Let’s hope not. Looks rough…

…real rough.
