Richard Fields was born on May 23, 1967 in Auckland, New Zealand. As the son of a diplomat he spent his childhood and youth in Lisbon (Portugal), Lima (Peru) and Munich (Germany). He studied oceanography (1 semester) and psychology at the University of Halifax (Canada) and the University of Munich. After years of traveling around the world, the enthusiastic surfer now resides with his family on the west coast of the Algarve (Portugal), where he works as a psychologist.
