The Inertia

As far as surf photography goes, nothing gets me more excited than dark skies, heavy waves, and afternoon light. There are a few waves around my hometown in Sydney that seem to hold the light longer than most parts of the local coastline. They’re like miniature aquatic studios, which is why it’s so important to preserve them for future generations.

I can’t imagine a life without a strong connection to the ocean. In recent years, I’ve come to realize the importance of our role in ensuring that a healthy environment is not just a photographic distant memory. I’ve started doing so by supporting the non-profit Take 3.

Take 3’s message is simple: Take three pieces of rubbish from the beach every time you get out of the surf. Although it may seem like taking those three pieces of rubbish won’t make a dent in the eight million tons of plastic that is dumped into our oceans every year, it’s the change in attitude towards plastic consumption that will serve as a catalyst for change. The ocean needs our help. Do your part.
