The Inertia

Last year, in a muggy media tent beneath the lights at Buttermilk, home to X Games Aspen, just after he’d won Silver in Big Air, Bobby Brown was ready to live differently. He stayed late for a HEADSPACE interview with us, waving to his brother Peter, who was standing at the back, near the door, far away from the media stage, ready to congratulate him. The brothers were just about ready to leave for Cooke City, Mont., for an epic filming session that made for a large segment in Brown’s latest edit, Be Water (above). And Brown was concentrating on appreciating the present moment.

Count me as a fan of Brown’s, and I can get down with his thinking, and his love of playing in the mountains with his family. His brother Peter also makes a significant appearance in Be Water. “He pushes me to do more than anyone else,” Brown said that night. “I’m pretty lucky to have (him) in my life.” And did Brown ever bust out in his latest cut with some serious backcountry hucking. Radical stuff, making triple backflips look fairly simple (if your name’s Bobby Brown, of course).

The influential skier has definitely tweaked the way he approaches the sport. And his year of living in the present has paid off. “I just want to change up my career and focus on filming these impactful video parts, that’s what I’m fired up on,” he said. Easy to see why. “Be Water,” is just Bobby Brown ‘being’ easy to watch.
