The Inertia

Here’s a quick dose of reality: despite being a four- (sometimes 6) lane freeway, Colorado’s I-70 is exposed to some serious avalanche terrain. All one needs to do is drive through the Eisenhower Tunnel to understand that. The big mountains are right there in front of you.

This video (below), posted to Twitter by Denver-area reporter Jeremy Hubbard, certainly backs up that point. A slide covered the freeway between Frisco and Copper Mountain, messing with the already-crowded commute to ski resorts out of the metro area. According to several different reports, it sounds as if there were multiple avalanches. Several cars were covered and at least one truck was pushed off the road. No one was injured or killed (a really good thing) but avalanche conditions in the area remain dangerous. The road was closed from the slide.
