The Inertia

Getting attacked by a shark is most ocean  lovers’ worst nightmare. Ten-year-old Jasmine Carney was bitten on the foot by a shark while swimming at Hobe Sound Beach in Florida recently. She felt something grab her, then proceeded to kick it before running to shore with blood trailing behind her. Her grandparents alerted lifeguards and she was transported to Palm Beach Children’s Hospital.

“I’m fine,” she said, giving the camera a big thumbs up. “I fought a shark and won.”

Her surgeons and doctors were impressed by her positivity throughout the entire incident. Carney attributes her calm demeanor to her six-year-old brother, whom she knew wouldn’t want her to panic. We could all learn something from Carney. The girl remained positive in a moment that would have certainly scared the wits out of most of us.
