The Inertia

Have you seen this before? A dive group near Brothers Island in the Red Sea had its silly tourist moment as they sat and watched a whitetip shark circle the group. There didn’t seem to be a whole lot of concern, until the shark attacks at the 2:12 point in the video, gripping on to the diver’s leg and and ripping at it until blood comes spurting out profusely. So is it one of the craziest attacks ever caught on film?

Many would argue that Mick Fanning’s attack at Jeffreys Bay was the craziest. But Mick avoided injury – mostly by fighting back. This diver was seriously injured. According to reports he suffered “severe tissue loss” but apparently survived. It was part of a series of attacks in 2018 near Brothers Island, which is part of Egypt. The constant presence of dive ships and the sounds and smells, along with divers being present in the water may have piqued the sharks interest at the time, according to experts.
