It was an impressive weekend at the Dew Tour Breckenridge and the biggest story coming out of the Colorado Mountain Town was the performance of three high-profile stars in their respective sports. Sponsors and organizers have got to be ecstatic with the weekend as the most important players made it happen on the biggest stage before the Holidays really get kicked off. Here’s a quick recap of three of the most impressive runs from the Dew Tour over the weekend.
Shaun White’s Return to Form
He hasn’t won a significant event since the XGames in 2013 but Sean White made it look like, well, he’d been there before with this event-sealing run in the Superpipe in snowy conditions on Saturday, proving he can still dominate an event like the snowboarding royalty that he is.
Gus Kenworthy Stokes the Hype Machine
When he came out in an ESPN article this fall, he mentioned the XGames as the one event where his performances have been subpar–and affected by his cloud of silence regarding his sexual preference. Kenworthy upped the ante for January 28-31 in Aspen, Colorado as everyone will be looking to see how he performs. And this win in the Slopestyle at the Dew Tour (Kenworthy’s second straight) only upped the ante.
Mark McMorris’ Huge Week
Turning 22, dropping a righteous video part, winning the Dew Tour Slopestyle. Mark McMorris had one hell of a week. The Canadian won his third Dew Tour Slopestyle event in four years and threw one of the cleanest triple corks of the weekend. In fact, it’s been a good month for McMorris: his girlfriend, Coco Ho, finished an even third at the Maui Pro at Honolua Bay, playing spoiler in the World Title chase when she took down Courtney Conlogue in the fourth round.
