The Inertia

Wow. Nothing like a good reminder to understand how brave and focused the U.S. Coast Guard is. And if you need that reminder, simply watch this harrowing rescue of a stranded sailboat crew in intense seas off of the New York coastline. “Sunday night (May 8), U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod was dispatched to a disabled sailboat 100 nautical miles south of Long Island Sound,” reads the YouTube and Air Station Cape Cod Facebook page description. “Upon arrival, they discovered the boat had been de-masted by a rogue wave, injuring all four people onboard. Battling heavy seas and challenging hoisting conditions, the Coast Guard crew rescued all four people.”

This is why you appreciate the Coast Guard. Helluva a job in crazy conditions.
